My personal design journey, all though short has seen many changes in what I do and what I'm interested in. I consider developing a love for art as a child the beginning of my design journey. I've always been a creative person and when I reached high school was when I learnt that design was an area that intrigued me. At school I was taught the traditional methods of design (graphic, web and product design) which I deeply enjoyed however I wanted to find a way to combine these things as well as learn about completely new methods of design. Starting university opened my eyes up to a whole new world of design and careers I didn't even know existed. This is what excites me as I still don't completely know what kind of job I want to end up in after university and some of these types of design are where I can see myself heading. A lot of my personal goals are based on current designers and aspects of their lives and jobs. This is a huge inspiration for me. For example New York based Austrian designer Tobias Van Schneider is a multi practice designer who has worked for Spotify, Fantasy Interactive and Ralph Lauren as well as created his own successful design firm and folio building website. He doesn't label himself as one type of designer and is a huge believer in messy personal side projects. (Van Schneider.T, r8/4/2020) His evolving career and the places he's worked is what inspires me, as well as his design values. In the future I would like to work in a design orientated role for either a design firm or in house at a company. Although I'm not entirely sure what I want to do yet I am currently interested in UX/UI design or Game design. I am super into the visual aspects of design and this is a path I can definitely see myself heading. I'd like to leave New Zealand and live else where to experience living and working in another country, and to learn about design globally.
