One of my current favourite design tools is the Wacom Intuos tablet. It's a digital drawing tablet that simulates physically drawing while actually creating a digital illustration. (TWC 2020)

The pad itself is a grid that represents the drawing area of the screen and it comes with a pen that wirelessly connects to the tablet and draws in real time. One of my favourite things about it is how easy it is to use. It feels exactly like regular drawing except it cuts out all difficult and often fiddly steps in digital illustration.

One of the main benefits I find when using it is the stroke size. Typically when drawing with the paintbrush tool on photoshop you have to manually change the stoke size when illustrating with the mouse. This can be inconvenient as it requires you to completely interrupt the drawing to change. With the Intuos the stroke size changes based on the pressure you apply to the pen. (Wacom 2020) This make illustration feel natural and convenient as you do not have to interrupt the process to change.

Another benefit of the Intuos tablet is its speed in which it simultaneously takes the drawing from the tablet and represents it on the screen. (Wacom 2020) Because the tablet itself does not actually contain a screen when drawing you have to look at the computer screen rather than at the pen. This took a little adjustment when I first started using it but now its second nature. This is hugely beneficial as there is not lag between the action with the pen and its expression on the screen.

I use the tablet both for uni work and personal use. Personally I have only used it for illustration and design however it is also capable of photo editing and note-taking. (Wacom 2020) Below I have included some of the work I have done while using this tablet.

This tablet is super useful from drawing and design in basic programmes like adobe photoshop and painter essentials. (DT 2018) However it is one of the cheaper models available and may not cope with heavier or more complex programmes as it only really carries out simpler illustration.

Overall this is one of my favourite design tools because it allows me to easily create digital illustrations without having to do any pre-sketching or scanning. It super easy to use and creates really cool pieces of art and design. This tablet is a game changer for me because it makes digital illustration fun. In the past I struggled with digital illustration as I found it tedious and time consuming, but with the tablet its very similar to drawing with a pencil and has made digital illustration fun as well as increasing the quality of my work.
